Changing an applicant's status is a normal part of recruiting. Every agency will occasionally move an applicant from one status to another based on new information or a recruiter conversation.
However, if your team is frequently overriding applicant statuses, it's usually a sign that your hiring workflow or qualification criteria should be adjusted.
The goal is to let Augusta automate repetitive recruiting decisions so your team can focus on interviewing and hiring.

When Should You Override a Status?
You can update an applicant's status at any time from their applicant profile.
Common examples include:
- Disqualified → Needs Further Review
- Disqualified → Qualified
- Needs Further Review → Qualified
Overrides are useful when a recruiter learns new information that changes whether an applicant should move forward.
What Happens After You Override a Status?
When you move an applicant into a status that continues your hiring process, Augusta may automatically take the next step based on your account's hiring stage settings.
For example, Augusta may:
- Invite the applicant to book a Screening
- Invite the applicant to book an Interview
- Add the applicant to your connected ATS
Exactly what happens depends on your Hiring Stages and Auto-Invite settings.

Augusta Won't Duplicate Actions
If an applicant has already:
- Been invited to book a meeting
- Been added to your ATS
Augusta will not send duplicate invitations or create duplicate records.
Frequently Overriding Statuses?
If you find yourself regularly changing applicant statuses, it's often a sign that your automation could be working harder for you.
Common examples include:
- Frequently moving Disqualified applicants to Qualified.
- Regularly reviewing Needs Further Review applicants that almost always become Qualified.
- Rejecting applicants late in your hiring process that could have been filtered earlier.
Over time, these manual decisions add unnecessary work and slow down your hiring process.
Instead, consider updating your qualification criteria or hiring workflow so Augusta automatically places applicants into the correct status from the beginning.
The goal is to automate repetitive recruiting decisions—not repeatedly override them.
Quick Tip
If you simply want to move an applicant to the next meeting without changing how they're qualified, you can invite them directly from their applicant profile.
Select: Invite to Screening or Invite to Interview depending on your hiring workflow.
This is often faster than changing their qualification status.
